Change….
No change.
Leather is living. Not every piece is the same. Which piece do we use for what?
Production of bags starts with the human eye looking at a piece of leather and deciding its quality.
Having experience in importing and exporting gloves our challenge continues.
We make many shoulder and travel bags. 90% of the material we use is ox hide. Therefore an eye for leather is important. The gentlemen’s range makes up 60 to 70 % of our total bag production.A important element of a gentleman’s bag is to be lightweight but look heavy.
Although design must be balanced, most care is taken towards the handle. It must be easy to grasp and moreover, strong. In production we check this many times.
Craftsmen need many years of experience to make a bag. By just their delicate touch they know the bag. The function of bags has had to change in accordance with new times; mobile phones and personal computers.
Bags naturally change with fashion and the times. However the technology doesn’t change.
Craftsman’s skills are passed on….this is also our job.
Now, production of a bag shifts to the Sri Lanka factory. Skillful technology is being inherited to them.
The fashionability and the function which are needed with a bag and a glove, and a time are made into the form.
Experience of Naigai is the moment of becoming a form.
